Red Creek, Cayo District – October 3, 2025 – The National Channel (TNC10) reiterates its commitment to use its platform to showcase Belize and Belizeans. As part of this commitment, the channel announces new programs to its current line-up.
Started in September, in partnership with our sister company, Nexgen, the channel is producing and broadcasting a monthly series called Belizean Kolcha. Our first episode, dubbed Ah Wah Noa Hoo Seh…? (English: I want to know who says…?), is now available for viewing on our social media platforms. It featured an extensive conversation with Andrea Rodriguez, who currently sits on the National Kriol Council and is the founder of Kuchriments, about the Kriol Language.
In October, we will present a discussion on the folklore of Belize, which is centered on the arts of storytelling and the spoken word and the impact these art forms have had on the national identity. Educator and author, David Ruiz of Benque Viejo del Carmen and poet and writer, Wilford Felix, who is the National Kriol Council President, offered insights. Our very own Dale McDougall, who is also an English lecturer at Galen University, will also offer readings of stories in Kriol. Additionally, in October, we aired a documentary on the Benque Viejo Marching Band, which focuses on the band’s development and its transformative impact on the country’s westernmost municipality following its international success in September.
In November, our presentation will focus on the critical importance of the Garifuna language as part of the Belizean story. In this episode, we will rely on the insights of the erudite cultural campaigner and long-time educator, Dr. Gwen Nunez-Gonzalez. This will also tie in with our presentation of the 2025 instalment of the Battle of Drums, live from Punta Gorda Town, Toledo. Stay tuned for more updates as November draws closer.
Speaking on the importance of this programming, Chief Executive Officer, Adrian Lizarraga said “TNC’s job is to create the spaces for these types of information and discussion. We are hoping that these shows serve as sources of entertainment, illumination, and upliftment. We hope to use these to galvanize the multicultural tapestry that makes Belize uniquely Belize. We also hope that the programs are aired in the classroom to help students appreciate their Belizeanness.”
